Guest Posting: 6 Lessons I Learned from Being Featured on World Famous Blogs

This is a guest post by Ryan Biddulph. He is a published author and blogger. In this post, Ryan provides 6 blogging tips he learned guest posting famous blogs around the globe to help you springboard your blog to success through guest posting on well-known blogs.

Why is it so hard to get featured on world famous blogs?

After being mentioned on Richard Branson’s Virgin blog, Forbes, Entrepreneur and Fox News I want to share how you too can land coveted spots on these top sites.

The benefits of landing on rocking blogs are obvious: expect an increase in blog traffic, greater profits and a surge in your brand awareness. Aligning with top brands instantly gives you and your brand credibility in the eyes of many readers too.

Learn from my 6 lessons to get featured on world famous blogs.

1. Surrender Plays a Bigger Role than You Think

During a 6-week jungle, in a remote area of Costa Rica, I was featured on both Forbes and Virgin.

I worked about 2 hours a week while living in the jungle as we walked into town only on Fridays to do some light online work and to buy food for the week.

If appearing on famous blogs required 19 hour work days for 7 days a week I’d never have landed both of these sweet guest posting opportunities.

Work intelligently and effectively. Help people. Then trust in the process to watch your online presence expand quickly.

After you have completed your work be at peace with surrendering. Spend a chunk of each day offline. Exercise. Go out to eat with your family sometimes. Go for a hike with your husband in the woods. Or maybe it’s time to take a week off from your online business.

Trusting that the work you do creates immense dividends over the long haul plays a big role in being featured on world famous blogs. Instead of doubting that contributors from well-known sites would want to feature you, your break periods will dissolve your lack of faith and allow these bloggers to see your impressive body of work.

2. Giving Freely Leads to Receiving

Every time someone emails me asking how to land features on top blogs I advise them to help people. The best way to pop up on the radar of big-name bloggers and bigger name brands is to be incredibly generous with your knowledge.

Help people through a wide range of online channels. Start with posting to your blog and publishing guest posts on blogs related to your niche. Answer questions on Quora. Be an active contributor to Facebook Groups and Google Plus Communities. By being helpful in many spots you appear to be all over this place. This omnipresent online strategy appeals to contributors from the high level, world-renowned blogs.

I intend to help as many people as possible through a wide range of channels online. Following through on that intent has helped me to be well known enough to warrant guest posting famous blogs and other features on well-known blogs.

Make sure to stay on topic. Help only folks interested in your niche via targeted online channels to avoid the common blogging mistake of niche-hopping with every blog post.

3. Release Expectations To See Features Multiple Quickly

After I was featured on Entrepreneur the story got picked up within minutes by Fox News.

A few weeks after I landed a feature on Forbes, a Virgin contributor told me they found me via the Forbes piece and featured me on Virgin.

I never gave thought to what I’d get out of each opportunity. I focused mainly on feeling grateful for each blessing.

Releasing heavy attachments to certain expectations from any one feature helps to multiply these opportunities.

Don’t get caught up in all the success you expect to see after any mention, interview or feature on any blog. Be grateful for the opportunity to help people.

Give most of your attention and energy to helping people. Be generous with your time and talents.

As you gradually detach from outcomes you will find that opportunities quickly mushroom for the detached, generous blogger.

4. Authenticity Rules

Being authentic makes your light shine brightly in your blogging niche.

I have always intended to do things from a genuine space with my blogging business.

Be honest, thoughtful and blog with love. Promote other bloggers freely. Do not beg them for anything in return.

Learn to blog. Practice your craft. Create helpful blog posts and guest posts.

Monetize with integrity.

Learn how to make money blogging from established pros who blog from an authentic space, like my friend Jerry Low at WHSR. He wrote this brilliant guide on monetizing your blog:

How to Make Money Blogging: Niche Ideas, Case Studies, and Traffic Strategies

When I got clearer in my direction I became more authentic and steadily popped up on higher profile blogs until I landed some sweet mentions on world-renowned sites.

Be genuine to be seen as an authority in your niche.

5.Trashing a Losing Venture Can Make Room for a Spectacular Venture

I deleted 3,400 posts, an old blog, and an entire online brand to make room for Blogging From Paradise.

Some bloggers told me I was nuts to delete so many posts. I knew that letting go the energetic anchor of a tired, worn out blog would accelerate my success with BFP.

Trashing a losing and exhausting blog can make room for a thriving blog that takes off quickly.

Thriving blogs tend to pop up on the radar of big dawg blogs and brands.

Prior to BFP, I had only been featured on lesser-known blogs. Since I created Blogging From Paradise I scored mentions on world-renowned blogs in additions to hundreds of features on a wide range of websites.

Let go any blog you have outgrown to make room for a successful venture that just may land you on high profile websites.

6. Clarity Wins When Guest Posting Famous Blogs

I was featured as a digital nomad authority on world-renowned sites.

One quick visit to my blog or Twitter account clearly reflects the fact that I travel the world and inspire other folks to do the same.

Clarity wins.

Most bloggers never get featured on high-level blogs or get a chance at guest posting famous blogs because they lack the clarity to do one thing well enough and long enough to get noticed for their craft.

If you get clear on specializing, you will leave the generalists in your dust.

Speak one message to one ideal reader. Ensure that your blog reflects this one brand message perfectly through all posts, pages, images, and elements.

World famous brands feature specialists who clearly do one thing for one ideal reader or customer. Make your ”1 thing” easy to see if you want to score features on top blogs.

Your Turn

How have you landed features on well-read blogs?

Or are you having a tough time landing these spots?

What tips can you add to this list for readers looking to get a chance guest posting famous blogs?

  1. I have tried almost all types of blogging and still can’t succeed. I have tried and failed more than once in Affiliate Blogging. I can write exceptional articles and that’s why I get a lot of orders of freelancing platforms but when comes to me blogging for myself I fail a lot.
I have read a lot that content is king but frankly no, without proper SEO content means nothing.

  2. Nice content Ryan and the points you raised here are really true. I am into the same industry but not a blogger, I am a digital marketing consultant trainer. Problem with me is, I hardly get any time to write anything on my industry for my site. I know the consequences of this failure but failing again and again in managing it.
I am seeing you on FB (friend of you) from almost beginning of your blogging journey and I really wish you achieve something great in coming days.
This content is pushing me you know, and now I think this is the time I need to start. Thanks for the post Ryan.

    1. Hi Soumya,

Sounds like you’d like to transition to become a blogger, at least part of your time. If that’s so I can relate. I sat long hours at a desk job fluffing worthless data spreadsheets around and would come home drained, knowing I still had to blog.

Don’t worry about time spent not blogging. Just dive in. Showcase your projects from digital marketing training in your first blog posts. I’d imagine plenty of people are looking to get into that training space and could learn from your posts!

(Sorry to steal that answer, Ryan 🙂 )

      Cheers,
      Greg
